Clear Clutter to find Clarity

As a young child, whenever I was sick my mum would clean my room and say, “you’ll feel better after I’ve tidied everything away.” And I always did; even to this day I always feel better when my house is clean.   It is well know that our surroundings affect us. Take a moment to acknowledge how you feel when you go to the beach, or for a walk in the hills. Recognise what emotions surface when you enter your office building or the dentist surgery.   How do you feel when you are in your own home? Content or […]

Life Lessons Learned on a Cycling Trip

My family and I have just come back from our first Cycling holiday. We went to New Zealand. I was so excited about going. I’ve always enjoyed cycling (even though I don’t do it very often). I love to be out in the fresh air with the wind blowing in my face and the feeling of freedom I get when whizzing down hills. We pedalled approximately 45km per day, which gave me a lot of time to think. There were so many metaphors about life that came to me during this trip that I felt compelled to share them […]

Things to do in the New Year

Things you need to do at the beginning of a new year!

One of the things I love about living in Australia is that life slows down for the whole month of January.  I still find a hot, sunny Christmas a bit confusing but I like the fact that people take time during, and after the silly season to spend time at the beach.  It is not only the festive season but also our summer holiday time and most schools don’t start back until the end of January. I use this time to set myself up for success in the coming year.  I don’t just mean business success, but personal success too. […]

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

New Year : BE you

The New Year allows us to throw away old calendars and start fresh with a blank canvass for each new month ahead. We make resolutions in our minds to change and improve. We make verbal commitments to ourselves and then we give ourselves a hard time when we don’t measure up. We label ourselves a failure by mid February and convince ourselves that it is all too hard and new years resolutions are a stupid idea anyway! “Life is difficult.” This is the first sentence written by Scott Peck in his famous book The Road Less Travelled. And do you […]

Change

Do I have to change?

No, of course you don’t! If something isn’t broken, why fix it? As long as you are happy with yourself and your life, there is no reason to change anything. However, when you begin to experience pain, or when your thoughts and actions start to create problems, you will NEED to change. More often than not we do not WANT to change. In each and every individual there is an infinite potential for expansion and growth. Not everyone chooses to use it, but it is there! Perhaps the most ironic thing is when people continue to do what they’ve always […]

Life Patterns

Have you seen the movie Ground Hog Day? Why do you think it was so popular? One reason is because everyone could relate to it: the routine, the patterns, the habits. We all have repetitive behaviours in our lives, some more positive than others. An important question to ask yourself is: IS THIS AN EMPOWERING PATTERN? Are you experiencing any of these repetitive patterns? ▪ Loneliness ▪ Dominated by fear. ▪ Irritated all the time. ▪ Judgmental of others. ▪ Ongoing financial worries. ▪ Start and never finish tasks. ▪ Weight loss, weight regain, repeat. ▪ Attracting the wrong type […]

CHANGE: Let Go and Grow.

“You have a problem at work, home or with yourself and you know you should do something about it but you never do – why?” Over the years, I have asked this question of numerous clients and there is one resounding answer, which I pick up through their body language and facial expressions because most don’t verbalize that they don’t like change. Human beings must be one of the few species on the planet that is willing to put up with pain for a long time rather than take action, to change and move on. By nature we become very […]

USE IT OR LOSE IT!

As I age I become more forgetful. I know that’s ok because it happened to my mum and dad and friends parent’s and my grandparents – it’s just what happens when we age. Or is it? I used to think so until I heard an interview with Dr Michael Merzenich from the University of California where he states that: “Your brain continues to make new neurons throughout life in response to mental activity.” That got me thinking – maybe it was lack of stimulation that caused the older generation around me to become more forgetful. My parents watched TV every […]
