I have just returned from an amazing trip to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
You may think this is of no interest to you… but read on because the lessons I learned during my time in this magical place are relevant to all humankind.
Many animals made these Islands their home and have survived against all the odds.
By adapting to their surroundings… And by that, I mean PHYSICALLY adapting. Can you imagine changing your body to adjust to new circumstances in life?
I discovered that the Flightless Cormorant, is one of the rarest birds in the world.
Because on the Galapagos Islands there were no large predators, and they didn’t need wings to escape, and apparently having wings was a disadvantage that prevented them from finding food easily. So, over time the wings ADAPTED. They became smaller. These birds also developed more powerful legs and webbed feet, so they could dive under water to hunt for fish. I find this astonishing.
An NLP lesson that I teach states that the person who is the most flexible in their outlook and behaviour will survive and succeed over those who are less so.
Charles Darwin discovered 13 species of Finches, this may not seem like a big deal, but it is!
Because they all came from a common ancestor and although they look similar, they all have different beaks. While one species has a thick, crushing beak that allows it to eat seeds and nuts, another has a long, thin beak so it can eat insects from the bark of trees. Each one ADAPTED to its surroundings. It changed in order to survive.
Are there things stunting your personal growth because you refuse to adapt?
Did you know that the Marine Iguana is the only reptile in the Galapagos that finds its food in the ocean? I didn’t. These reptiles should have died of starvation, but they refused. Instead they found another way to feed. They dive down to 40 feet to feed on algae and seaweed and have learned to hold their breath for up to 15 minutes.
Are there situations holding you back in life because you are unsure how to adjust?
Are you stuck in a rut fearing change? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then the next question is : Do you want to shift your life to be more positive, to grow, to find happiness and personal success?
If you answered ‘yes’ to this question, then maybe it’s time for you to get some support and guidance. Maybe all you need is for someone to walk alongside you on your journey, to encourage you and to cheer you on as you evolve and become the person you were born to be.
I have gone through many periods of change in my own life. Each growth has led to a more fulfilling and happier outlook. Change is not easy, but often necessary. I know what it takes. I also know that like the Galapagos Animals it is do-able. I have great techniques that I can share with you. As a Life Coach, I get to watch ladies transform their lives for the better every day – maybe you will be next…
