Surviving Against All Odds!

I have just returned from an amazing trip to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. You may think this is of no interest to you… but read on because the lessons I learned during my time in this magical place are relevant to all humankind. Many animals made these Islands their home and have survived against all the odds. How? By adapting to their surroundings… And by that, I mean PHYSICALLY adapting. Can you imagine changing your body to adjust to new circumstances in life? I discovered that the Flightless Cormorant, is one of the rarest birds in the world. Why? Because […]

Fed Up With Society’s Consumption of Stuff?

Am I the only one feeling overwhelmed by the amount of Black Friday Special Bargain emails flooding into my inbox this weekend? I feel torn because a part of me doesn’t want to miss out on the latest, greatest offer – but there is also a greater part of me that is fed up with our society’s consumption of ‘stuff.’ I know this Black Friday marketing is there to highlight what I don’t have, but even if it’s something I don’t really want or need my subconscious is now aware that I don’t have it and feels slightly bereft, weird but true! Rene […]

What does it take to be awarded an MBE?

Hearing the news that my eldest brother has been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, caused me to reflect on how this could be. He is the eldest of six children brought up in Castlemilk, Glasgow with poorly educated, working class parents. He didn’t go to a top school, or leave with the best grades. He didn’t inherit money or have heaps of guidance. What sets someone on this list apart from those who are not? What is it about these individuals that makes people want to nominate them, recognize […]

Is your dog the only one who listen’s to you in your home?

Is the use of social media causing arguments in your home? It’s not all bad! Firstly, let’s acknowledge that it’s not realistic to opt out of technology entirely. The web and digital devices are now thoroughly integrated into modern life. And to be honest I love using Facebook as a means for keeping in touch with my family and friends overseas. I was recently ‘found’ on Facebook by old school friends that I haven’t seen for 25 years, words cannot describe the uplifting feeling that I had at being reconnected with them. Set boundaries for the whole family: Set time […]

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED …. ASK YOURSELF WHY?

Planning the winter holiday in Japan with my family was great fun. What I hadn’t planned was the lesson I learnt about myself in the process… My teenage daughters and I agreed to join my husband in mastering the art of snowboarding. With huge excitement and positivity we booked rooms overlooking the mountains of Hakuba and signed up for beginner’s lessons. With our bags packed, a comfortable flight and a few days in Tokyo beforehand, we finally arrived at the ski resort. Winter sun shinning on white glistening snow, we stepped comfortably into a gondola, helped by an assistant who […]

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

New Year : BE you

The New Year allows us to throw away old calendars and start fresh with a blank canvass for each new month ahead. We make resolutions in our minds to change and improve. We make verbal commitments to ourselves and then we give ourselves a hard time when we don’t measure up. We label ourselves a failure by mid February and convince ourselves that it is all too hard and new years resolutions are a stupid idea anyway! “Life is difficult.” This is the first sentence written by Scott Peck in his famous book The Road Less Travelled. And do you […]

Life Patterns

Have you seen the movie Ground Hog Day? Why do you think it was so popular? One reason is because everyone could relate to it: the routine, the patterns, the habits. We all have repetitive behaviours in our lives, some more positive than others. An important question to ask yourself is: IS THIS AN EMPOWERING PATTERN? Are you experiencing any of these repetitive patterns? ▪ Loneliness ▪ Dominated by fear. ▪ Irritated all the time. ▪ Judgmental of others. ▪ Ongoing financial worries. ▪ Start and never finish tasks. ▪ Weight loss, weight regain, repeat. ▪ Attracting the wrong type […]

CHANGE: Let Go and Grow.

“You have a problem at work, home or with yourself and you know you should do something about it but you never do – why?” Over the years, I have asked this question of numerous clients and there is one resounding answer, which I pick up through their body language and facial expressions because most don’t verbalize that they don’t like change. Human beings must be one of the few species on the planet that is willing to put up with pain for a long time rather than take action, to change and move on. By nature we become very […]

right?-wrong?-different?

Not Right or Wrong – JUST DIFFERENT!

I watched two women interviewed on sunrise recently. Their English accents caught my attention and I wondered why they were on Australian TV. It is a fate of our society that bad news sells, shocking news grabs our attention and this was no different. It wasn’t immediately obvious that one woman was older than the other, when they were introduced as mother and daughter their story became even more unbelievable. So what was the message that they had to share with the world? That they spent £100,000 on plastic surgery to look like Katy Price, (a British topless model, previously […]
